Artist Statement:
The outdoors, and art are my life. My work expresses my life experiences in the outdoors and my life personally. I try to capture the emotion and personality of both my human and wildlife subjects. I challenge myself with hours of study and reference, paying particular attention to exacting detail, creating my own individual style.
Bio:
Gary Lee Ginther is a native of Nebraska. He was born and raised on the Republican River in McCook, Nebraska. At a very young age, Gary showed unusual talent in art. At the same time, he developed what would become a life-long interest in wildlife and the outdoors. After moving to the mountains of Colorado, Gary spent over two decades guiding and outfitting hunters, fishermen, and wildlife photographers.
A self-taught artist, Gary has developed an unusually refined style of bronze sculpture, with such intricate detail, delicacy and sensitive fidelity to nature, that he has won awards and acclaim in both national and international art exhibitions. Gary has created and sold sculptures to a diverse clientele: private collectors, public corporations such as Ted Turner Enterprises and Universal Studios; and academic institutions including the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Earth Science Museum of Brigham Young University, Pronghorn Pride Interpretive Center Rawlins, Wyoming, High Plains Museum in McCook, Nebraska, Cambridge Park Foundation in Cambridge, Nebraska, Veterans World War I Memorial in Oxford, Nebraska, and the Archway Monument in Kearney, Nebraska.
He has also provided artwork for charitable institutions such as Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep Society, the Rocky Mountain Goats, the Clark County Public Education Foundation, Kearney Gold Benefit Auction, National Bluebird Society, The Audubon Society, and McCook Community Foundation.
Gary's sculptures have also graced awards presented by the National Bluebird Society, McCook Community Foundation and the Audubon Society's Fred Thomas Award, which was presented to former Senators Exon and Kerry.
In 1994, Gary returned to Nebraska, to establish his studio on Harry Strunk Lake, 10 miles northwest of Cambridge. Here he finds the peaceful atmosphere he needs while he works on his current commissions and creates new sculptures. Walking the trails, which he has roamed since childhood, he studies the animal life around the lake, searches for fossils and arrowheads in the sand, and gathers fresh information and inspiration for his art projects. Gary, known for his beautiful bronze eagles, can now look out his front window and watch bald eagles soar under the early morning clouds, swoop down to seize fish from the silver waters, then roost in the treetops below Ginther Studios, as they enjoy their prey.
